Darts made from tungsten are considered the most prolific darts in play with the traditional bristle board, and the earlier version of the game. In fact, the vast majority of professional players at the highest level of the game use tungsten darts. These darts are expensive, but not prohibitively so. It is not the price of the dart exclusively which makes them a poor choice for the beginner and intermediate player, it is simply the fact that the extra money spent will not translate into a better performance without the player having developed enough skill to use the equipment properly.

It is a complete myth that buying more expensive equipment will make you a better dart player. Unless you have actually held a dart in your hand and tried to throw it, you are not really able to know whether it is suitable for you. There are many different types of dart, and a great variation in the thickness of the barrel. This is the factor which is most significant in determining whether or not a dart will feel comfortable.

Tungsten darts are the best you can buy, but it is best to spend more money than you have to until your skill level warrants it. Most dart players will stick with the same weight and shape of dart throughout their entire life, but they will be prepared to experiment with new materials and new technology. This is the best way to approach the problem of equipment, and will allow you to get the best value out of your tungsten darts.
